Cross-Cultural Awareness Makes Employees Feel Included at ATI

As a designer and manufacturer of 3D graphics processing units, ATI Technologies needs employees with a very specific technical skill set. As a result, ATI often turns to foreign universities and labour markets to find people with the necessary skills

To create a welcoming and inclusive climate for these multicultural employees, many of whom are from Chinese and South Asian cultures, ATI has developed a number of programs that facilitate their integration:

  • English and Mandarin classes are provided to improve internal communication among co-workers.
  • Learning sessions are offered to employees to increase their knowledge of various cultures. These may focus on a single culture (e.g. India) or multiple cultures (e.g. South Asia).
  • Managers are offered cross-cultural training entitled “Managing in a Global Environment.”

By creating a workplace that encourages diversity and cultural awareness, employees feel respected and included. ATI benefits by increased employee retention and satisfaction, leading to a lasting competitive advantage and long-term growth.

Tips for employers

  • Create an inclusive environment with language classes and cross-cultural training for all employees.
