Loblaw Helps Foreign-Trained Pharmacists Become Licensed

Hari Pemasani, a pharmacist from India, talks about how Loblaw helped him grow his career from part-time pharmacy assistant to pharmacy manager.

Hari Pemasani, a pharmacist from India, immigrated to Canada in 2007. Upon arrival, he looked for a job in his field but was told over and over again that his lack of Canadian experience disqualified him for the openings.

That changed when two months after his arrival he interviewed for a part-time pharmacy assistant’s position at Loblaw, one of the 2012 Best Employers for New Canadians.

Not only did he get the job, but Loblaw also paid for him to upgrade his international qualifications and receive his Canadian pharmacy license through the International Pharmacy Graduate program at the University of Toronto. Today, he is the pharmacy manager at Fortinos, a division of Loblaw, in Hamilton.
