Finding Talent Chapter 10: Assertiveness

Different cultures have differing views of assertiveness in the workplace. In some cultures, being assertive at the expense of offending one’s superior is not considered acceptable. (Version français.)

This cultural difference is revealed in the tenth instalment of Finding Talent, a training video by TRIEC that follows the fictional experiences of MetroCan Technologies as it considers hiring a skilled immigrant named Tarek.

In this chapter, Tarek is uncomfortable answering a question about a time when he disagreed with his boss.

Tips for Employers:

  • The awareness that different cultures view topics in different ways provides hiring managers an opportunity to probe more deeply during job interviews and to interpret responses differently.

Watch the video or to use the video for internal training or presentations you can download through the TRIEC Campus. You will have to register (free) and then you can download the video.
