Dimensions of Inclusiveness
Thursday June 12, 2014 from 1:00-4:00 PM
Our facilitator will be joined by a panel of New Canadians in an interactive session focused on creating dialogue among new internationally trained individuals (ITIs) and current teams in your workplace. We will explore and learn to create four key inclusiveness dimensions of multicultural workplaces: Entering your work culture: Workplace Orientation topics for ITIs; Clarifying unwritten rules; Mentoring made Easy; and Inclusiveness strategy: How to create a learning session for current staff to learn more about their ITI counterparts.
Effective Cultural Adaptation Strategies
Monday, June 23, 2014 from 1:00-4:00 PM
Through research, we can now describe the profile of the person who adapts interculturally (both to culture and to workplace) most effectively. In this session we will: explore the adaptation process and the strategies that make it successful; be introduced to a self-assessment tool (used by both New Canadians and employees in multicultural workplaces) that identifies one’s personal areas of strength and challenge in adaptation and also provides action plans for addressing areas of challenge; and identify aspects of culture that may appear in the workplace.
Culturally Competent Interviewing Skills (NEW)
Tuesday July 15, 2014 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM
In this interactive learning session we will explore how the sending and receiving of messages during the interview can lead to misinterpretations and misconceptions. We will use a paradigm to build skills that are interpreted congruently by both interviewer and the Internationally Educated Professional who is interviewing. We will also address and respond to best practices in the Ontario Human Rights Code Removing the “Canadian Experience” Barrier Guide for Employers and Regulatory Bodies.
