Delivering Effective Feedback

Newcomers from diverse cultures often perceive feedback very differently. Managers need to be aware of the potential for misunderstanding and should:

  • Focus on the verbal content of the message, rather than on non-verbal cues such as body language, intonation and register in speech;
  • Set clear goals and concrete deliverables early; and
  • Address cultural issues in an open, honest way before they become insurmountable.
